From One Dog’s Story to a Downtown Destination: Wags Bakery & Grooming Opens in Bellefontaine

In the heart of downtown Bellefontaine, a new kind of pet experience is opening its door. A door built on love, resilience, and the belief that dogs deserve something truly special.

Wags Bakery & Grooming officially celebrates its grand opening on April 16, 2026, bringing together fresh-baked dog treats, professional grooming, and a boutique retail experience, all under one roof.

But behind the storefront is a story that started with one dog.

Built from Love (and a Whole Lot of Heart)

Wags Bakery & Grooming began during a difficult season.

After owner Suzanne Williams’ dog, Buckeye, became seriously ill with Blastomycosis, she began making fresh, wholesome treats at home to help him take his medication and recover. What started as a way to care for her own dog quickly grew into something much bigger, a mission to create a space where dogs are treated like family.

Out of long nights, deep care, and a passion for animals, Wags Bakery was born.

More Than a Pet Store—An Experience

Wags isn’t just one thing, it’s a thoughtfully designed experience for both dogs and their humans.

Inside you'll find:

  • Fresh, in-house baked dog treats made daily
  • Full-service grooming focused on comfort and quality
  • A boutique-style retail space with toys, accessories, and essentials

Every detail is intentional. Every service is personalized.

And yes, every grooming appointment comes with a fresh bakery treat.

Because at Wags, the little things matter.

Fresh, Handmade, and Thoughtfully Crafted

One thing many people don’t realize? Nothing here is mass-produced.

Every biscuit, cookie, bone, cupcake, and birthday cake is baked fresh in-house—by hand—with a focus on quality ingredients and care.

It’s part of a bigger philosophy: Dogs deserve the same level of thoughtfulness we give ourselves.

From grooming techniques to treat recipes, everything is customized to fit each dog’s unique needs.

A Space for the Community (and Their Dogs)

While Wags offers incredible products and services, its vision goes beyond the storefront.

This is a place designed for connection.

Plans are already underway for:

  • Dog-themed events and seasonal celebrations
  • Educational classes like Dog Grooming 101
  • Creative experiences like “Paint Your Pup” nights
  • Partnerships with local shelters and organizations
  • Fundraisers and adoption-focused events

The goal? To create a welcoming hub where dog lovers can gather, learn, and celebrate the pets they love most.
