If you’re within 45 minutes of Bellefontaine and haven’t made a day of it yet, you’re missing out. We’re talking restaurants worth driving for, axe-throwing, underground caves, and a St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl that sells out every single year. Columbus, Springfield, Findlay, Lima, Marion … none of them are far. Here are five dates worth the trip.
The Slow Morning and the Best Coffee in Bellefontaine, Ohio

You know the kind of morning where you just don’t rush anywhere? This is that one. Downtown Bellefontaine is really good at slow mornings, and if you’re driving in from Columbus or Springfield, getting there early means you snag the good seats before the regulars do.
Coffee
Three great options, three different atmospheres. Native feels like a proper roaster’s shop, the kind where you actually want to know where the beans came from. Allways Brewing is laid-back and comfortable, the kind of place where you might accidentally stay two hours. And Sweet Aromas has been a Logan County staple since 2012. It’s every bit as cozy as it sounds. Pick one and save the other two for next time. There will definitely be a next time. How do we know? Because people say, “OK, I’ll give it a whirl. Let’s see.” And then they keep coming back.
Breakfast
Morning Riot. That’s really all you need to know. Great food, relaxed pace, the kind of energy that makes a Saturday feel like it’s going somewhere good. If you’re coming in from out of town, this is a wonderful first stop while you figure out the rest of the day.
Best Downtown Bellefontaine Restaurants for a Lunch Date
Midday dates don’t get nearly enough credit. No stress about what you’re wearing; no logistics about who’s driving home. Just good food and wherever the afternoon takes you. Downtown Bellefontaine is walkable enough that you can park once and forget about your car for hours.

Lunch
Six Hundred Downtown is a great pick if you want something a little more sit-down and relaxed. Brewfontaine, voted the #1 beer bar in Ohio, is the spot if rotating craft taps are your thing. Flying Pepper is louder and more flavor-forward, which is sometimes exactly what hits the spot. Coming in from Columbus or Dayton and haven’t tried any of these yet? Start with whichever one has a table open.
After Lunch
Just walk. Downtown Bellefontaine is compact enough to cover on foot but interesting enough that you’re not just wandering aimlessly. There are local shops worth poking around in, spots worth photographing, and enough going on that the afternoon kind of takes care of itself. A lot of first-time visitors leave wondering why they waited so long to come.
Date Ideas in Bellefontaine, Ohio Where You Actually Do Something

Activity dates are great because you’re not just sitting across from each other, hoping the conversation flows. This section covers a few fun things to do in Bellefontaine Ohio, with options depending on how hands-on you want to get.
Candle Making at Make Time
Make Time runs candle-making workshops that are genuinely more fun than they sound on paper. You pick the scent, you make the candle together, and you walk out with something you actually created. It’s a fun change from the usual dinner-and-that’s-it night, and it gives you something to talk about long after.
Axe Throwing or Duckpin Bowling at Axe Quacks
Axe Quacks has both axe throwing and duckpin bowling under one roof (which is already a pretty great sentence if you think about it). The axe-throwing has a learning curve that works surprisingly well for a date since you’re both figuring it out together. When your arms get tired, the duckpin lanes are right there. Most people end up doing both … and have a really good time.
Snacks After
One Eyed Cookie Lab or City Sweets on the way out. Both are right downtown, both are delicious, and after axe-throwing you’ll definitely want a treat.
Things to Do Near Bellefontaine, Ohio Beyond Downtown

This date idea is a good one if you’re already driving in from Columbus or Findlay. Since you’re in the car anyway, you might as well see what Logan County has going on outside of downtown. There’s quite a bit more than most people expect. How much more?
Check it out.
Ohio Caverns
About 15 minutes outside of Bellefontaine, just off Route 68. The crystal formations here are some of the best in the entire country, and that’s not just a brochure claim; they really are something special. The guided tour runs about an hour, it stays around 54 degrees underground (so bring a light layer if you run cold) and it’s one of those places that sounds like a goofy day trip until you’re actually down there. Absolutely worth the detour.
Putt-N-Play
Mini golf is hard to have a bad time at, and Putt-N-Play is a perfect low-key stop to wind down an afternoon that started downtown. Casual, fun, and exactly the right vibe before heading to dinner.
The Downtown Bellefontaine St. Paddy’s Bar Crawl March 14, 2026

If you’ve been waiting for a good reason to finally make the drive out to Bellefontaine, March 14th is a realllllly good one.
The Downtown Bellefontaine St. Paddy’s Bar Crawl runs Saturday, March 14th from 6 to 9 PM. Check-in is at Roundhouse Depot Brewing Co. at 217 W. Chillicothe Ave. Every ticket includes five Golden $1 Coins redeemable at participating stops, festive swag (beads, bracelets, along with an exclusive event sticker), and an automatic entry into a prize drawing for $25 Chamber Choice Checks redeemable at local Bellefontaine businesses.
Tickets are on Eventbrite. Single: $25 | Pair: $40 | Group of Four: $75 ($18.75/person). The pair is the easy pick for a date night. If you’re rounding up a group from Columbus or anywhere else nearby, the group of four saves everyone a few bucks and makes the night more fun.
The official end time is 9 PM,but c’mon … nobody’s really ready to go home at 9 PM. Obviously. The bars stay open, the energy stays high, and if you’re visiting from out of town this is the kind of night that shows you exactly what downtown Bellefontaine is all about. Plan to stay late and maybe book somewhere nearby to make it a full weekend.
Refunds are available up to March 7th and final after that. These sell out every year, especially the group of four tier, so the sooner you grab them the better.
And, we’re serious here, please enjoy responsibly. We want you to have fun. We want you to have a night full of good drinks, laughter, blowing off a little steam, and more. Just make good choices; that’s all we’re saying.
Bellefontaine Ohio Is Worth the Drive from Columbus Springfield and Beyond
If you’re in Columbus, Springfield, Lima, Findlay, or anywhere within about 45 minutes and you haven’t spent a day in downtown Bellefontaine yet, it’s worth putting on the calendar.
Good restaurants, fun things to do, a bar crawl that people look forward to all year, and caves 20 minutes down the road. The Downtown Bellefontaine Partnership and Logan County Visitors Bureau have done a lot of great work making this a town people genuinely enjoy visiting.
Oh, and tag the local spots when you go on social media. Those businesses will love it, and someone on your feed might just decide to make the drive too.
Finally, we’ll just say “you’re welcome” now. Your gratitude at this discovery is coming.
You’ll see.
