Bellefontaine, Ohio and Football: Our First-Ever Tailgate Takeover is Almost Here

Bellefontaine, Ohio and Football: Our First-Ever Tailgate Takeover is Almost Here

Once the first kickoff of the football season flies through the air, you know the fall season has begun. (We don’t need to wait for the “official” first day on the calendar!)

And in downtown Bellefontaine, a brand-new seasonal tradition is coming to the heart of our community. We’re turning downtown into a game-day destination for the first-ever Downtown Tailgate Takeover on Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7.

Saturday: Community, Chili, and Cheers

The weekend officially kicks off on Saturday with our Community Pep Rally.

Gather with friends, family, and neighbors to show some love for all-area schools as they get us fired up for the season ahead.

Find your spot downtown to cheer on Bellefontaine’s own Tavien St. Clair, playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes!

But the fun doesn’t stop there. Get your taste buds ready for a delicious Chili Cook-Off, where local cooks will go head-to-head.

Think you have the best recipe in town? Or just want to sample some amazing chili? (Who doesn’t?) This is your chance.

We’ll also have classic tailgate games and activities for all ages, from cornhole to giant Jenga, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

And for all the car enthusiasts out there, Saturday evening will also feature a special Jeep Night, where you can check out some incredible off-road vehicles. The night will wrap up with a high-energy Pep Rally Parade, which will infuse everyone with an electric excitement for gameday.

Sunday: Football, Flavor, and Fun

Make the most of our Downtown Bar Hop!

Start at any participating bar or restaurant to grab your free Bar Hop Passport. Then, explore all of the other spots on the list.

Each stop will offer the football experience you’re looking for, complete with big screens to watch the games, team-themed specials on food and drinks, prizes, and plenty of team spirit.

It’s the perfect opportunity to catch all the gameday action while exploring the best of what downtown Bellefontaine’s ever-popular food and drink scene has to offer.

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

What does Downtown Bellefontaine have to offer? Why, we’re glad you asked?

For the beer lover, you can’t miss Brewfontaine, which has been recognized as Ohio’s #1 Beer Bar … multiple years in a row.

If you love craft beer, this is a must. (There’s a reason for the ongoing accolades!) It has an extensive and rotating tap list of craft beers, as well as a great selection of wine and cocktails. They also have a mouth-watering menu. Check it out now, and thank us later. (Get the Reuben!)

For a different kind of taproom experience, check out Roundhouse Depot Brewing, a local brewery that pays homage to Bellefontaine’s railroad history with its own unique brews.

Another option is The Pub at the Craft Emporium. Friendly, vibes, large collection of rotating taps and if you taste something you like, grab a DORA beverage and walk around to check out all of the other fall favorites in the downtown.

End your evening at Wrock Bottom Bar, the newest establishment in town. Big TV’s with all the games, family friendly arcade and a menu full of favorite game day fare, appetizers and snacks.

Does all this talk of food make you hungry? (Us too.)

Let’s talk about the restaurants in Downtown Bellefontaine.

  • The Syndicate is the spot for a special night out. They call it “big city dining in a small, charming town,” and it’s totally true. You’ll find gourmet food and fancy cocktails in a beautifully renovated space.
  • For an award-winning pizza, you have to try Six Hundred Downtown. Seriously, this place is world-famous. They serve up hand-spun, brick-oven pizzas that are out of this world.
  • Craving Mexican? Hit up The Flying Pepper Cantina. Their tacos and other dishes are packed with zesty flavor.
  • Looking for classic comfort food? Don’s Downtown Diner and The Garage Bar + Kitchen feature everything from juicy burgers to hearty meals.
  • Dig into incredible smoked meats at 2G’s Barbecue and flavorful Japanese and Chinese food at Kiyomi Sushi and Steak House.
