Inspired by Ricky Nelson and Roy Rogers, Nick Carter picked up a $15 guitar and never looked back—even if it nearly killed his fingers. From high school sock hops with the Jabberwockies to the British Invasion-inspired Royal Society, his early bands laid the groundwork for a lifelong love of storytelling through song. After soaking up the California coast’s coffeehouse scene with friend Dan, he returned to Ohio to co-found SYMBIOSIS—an original-heavy folk-rock band that became a fixture at Skipper’s Galley and Columbus hotspots, even opening for the likes of Sha Na Na and Orleans. His 2018 album Simple Life, recorded in Nashville with top-tier musicians and producer Tom Manche, blends folk roots with island soul, reflecting his years spent in the British Virgin Islands. These days, he splits time between Logan County, Nashville, and Apalachicola—still chasing the next great melody
